Hello Robins!

We have had another great week in Year 1 this week and we have done lots of wonderful learning. On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and we all had such a special day! You all looked so brilliant dressed as your chosen book character and we loved sharing with each other what we were. We also read the book ‘Old Hat’ by Emily Gravett. We loved the story and the illustrations and we did some great learning linked to the story. We used our inference skills to discuss what the characters in the book might be saying- you all came up with some imaginative ideas.

In the afternoon we also had the opportunity to visit our new library and we were all blow away by how amazing it is. We had a little look around at the books; next week we will be going back to the library to choose our own books for our class library which is very exciting!

In Maths this week we have been learning to count in steps of 2 and 5. I wonder if you can show a grown up at home your amazing counting in steps of 2 or 5? I wonder if you can answer these tricky questions…

2, 4, 6 _______. 10, 12, _________

5, 10, 15, ______, 25, 30, _______

Next week we will be moving on to learning all about length.

In English this week we have continued to look at our story ‘Anna Hibiscus’ and we read the section where Anna went on holiday with her family. She left the city and visited an island and we thought about the things she saw on her journey.  Then we used all of our ideas and created our own poems.

In Science this week we carried out our experiment. We used a range of different materials to make a house that could support a 20gram weight. I was so impressed by your creations, they were so inventive!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend Robins and I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Love Miss Spencer x
