Oak Learning Blog – Autumn 2 Week 4

By Debbie Barlow on Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Year 2. No Comments

Hello everyone,

Welcome to this weeks Oak Learning Blog and its been another busy week packed with learning. Read on to find out more…

In English this week we continued with our pumpkin theme and looked at the classic tale Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. Following responding to this book we wrote some instructions on how to make pumpkin soup after a little help from a cookery lesson on You tube. We tasted some real pumpkin soup and worked in a group to write some poems about pumpkins using Spagetti Spagetti by Jack Prelutsky as our inspiration. Next week we return to out tale on Pattan and his pumkin.

In maths we have been busy finding the difference between amounts of money and finding change. Tricky concepts but we used some bar model number lines to help us. Sumdog homework has been set for the week that will help continue this work.

In the afternoon we looked at the life cycle of a pumpkin in Science and set up our own experiments to test the conditions needed for plant growth. We are looking at different growing materials, different lights, different temperatures and different watering materials. We worked hard to make our investigations fair. In Jigsaw we looked at identifying bullying and what we should do if that ever happened by exploring some simple scenarios. In computing we looked at spreadsheets. We also had our extra golden time we earned as value token winners.

Next week it is certificate assembly again for year 2 due to the Edgemond Hall trip and invites came out on Friday. If your child has any badges or certificates to share please send them in on Thursday morning.

Spellings will be tested this week too.

Thank you for reading,

See you on Monday.

Love Mrs Barlow xxxx
