What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 1! We enjoyed celebrating Diwali day on Wednesday and we took part in lots of lovely activities. We made our own Diva lamps, lanterns and had a really fun dance workshop where we used different movements to tell the story of Rama and Sita. You all loved the dance workshop, you all got really stuck in and walked out with huge smiles on your faces!
Then on Friday we came to school in our own clothes or something spotty or silly to raise money for Children in Need. You all looked fabulous! We had an assembly in the morning where I told you all about Children in Need and the types of things the money would be used for. Then in the afternoon we did some Pudsey Bear crafts and heard Pudsey Bear’s fundraising story.
In English this week I revealed the full story of ‘Mr Underbed’ to you all and we answered some questions about the story, for example, ‘what did you enjoy about the story?’ and ‘was there anything that puzzled you in the story?’. Then on Friday we planned our own version of Mr Underbed using our own creatures we had made up. Next week we will be using our story plans to write our own stories. I am really looking forward to hearing them.
In Maths this week we have been continuing to look at addition and we investigated whether addition can be done in any order- and we agreed we could! We worked hard on some tricky problems and used three numbers to come up with four different addition calculations. Well done! Next week we will be moving on to look at number bonds.
This week has also been Anti- Bullying week so we had an assembly on Monday all about choosing respect and being kind to others. Then we designed our own odd socks because we agreed that just like a pair of odd socks, each one of us is unique and special. I loved looking at your wonderful designs!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend Robins and I will see you all on Monday 🙂
Love Miss Spencer x
