Oak Learning Blog – Autumn 1 Week 6

By Debbie Barlow on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Year 2. No Comments

Hello everyone,

Welcome to another Oak Learning Blog! We have had another super week with some brilliant learning from all the children. Read on to find out what we’ve been up to this week.

In English, the children designed a leaflet for their own imaginary Castle and filled it with everything they wanted in a castle and its grounds. The children learned more about statement and command sentences, including using commands to persuade people to visit. The children had some amazing ideas and worked with great creativity and imagination. The finished leaflets look wonderful! Well done Oak!

In Maths, we have been continuing to practice our number bonds to 10 and 20, and extending ourselves by learning bonds to 100. Towards the end of the week, we have been looking at how to find 10 more and 10 less than any number, as well as adding and subtracting multiples of 10 e.g. 34 + 20, 65 – 30. I have set some Sumdog homework for the next week which will continue to practise our subtracting skills.

In Geography this week, we learned about why castles were built in certain places, and discussed where we thought might be best if we were building our own castles. In Computing, we did some more work on debugging programs using Purple mash.. In Music, we completed our unit of work on South African music, with the children singing, playing instruments, improvising and composing to the song ‘Hands, Feet, Heart’. In RE, we learned about the story of Cain and Abel from The Bible, and what it teaches us about the behaviour choices we make. And in Jigsaw, we completed our Learning Charter all about the Rights, Responsibilities, Rewards and Consequences we all have in our classroom and school. It is now displayed in the cloakroom.

Just a couple of notes for parents this week. Firstly, we will be testing and issuing new spellings in reading diaries by the end of next week so make sure you have that final practice. Secondly, invitations have been sent out to the children who will be receiving a certificate in next week’s Celebration Assembly on Thursday 18th October. If your child wants to bring in a certificate, medal or trophy from outside school to show they are more than welcome! And finally don’t forget to book your Parents Evening appointment time online.

Thank you for reading the blog.

See you all on Monday.

Love Mrs Barlow xxx
