Well done on completing your second week of year 1 and what a busy week we have had!
On Monday you had your first PE lesson with Mr Coley, I heard you were all so sensible and showed off some brilliant skills. Then we were introduced to our new story, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. We began by looking at an illustration from the story and had a discussion about what we thought was happening in the picture and what type of story it might be. On Monday afternoon we read the story and you all really enjoyed hearing about Max’s adventure to meet the Wild Things!
In English you all wowed me with your excellent writing! You wrote some sentences using capital letters and full stops describing a Wild Thing, for example, ‘He has sharp, pointy claws’. Then we wrote all about our favourite parts of the story. In Maths we have been looking at the words ‘more’ and ‘less’. We worked practically and got some counters and compared the amounts. I was very impressed with your maths skills! The children went home with their Sumdog log ins this weekend (they are stuck at the front of their reading diaries), I have set some homework on there linked to our learning from the week. If you get chance over the weekend maybe you could have a go!
In the afternoon in our Jigsaw lesson we thought about times that make us feel safe and special and we had a discussion about this, you all contributed some lovely ideas. For example, when I am with my family or when I am riding my bike at the park. You then drew a picture of this in your brand new year 1 topic books and I was very proud of your wonderful presentation.
Our author of the half term is Dr Seuss so if you have any Dr Seuss books at home you would like to share with the class then you are more than welcome to bring them in. Just a quick reminder we are making boats next week so any boxes or containers (something like tissue boxes, butter containers, larger yogurt pots would be perfect) would be greatly received. Thank you for the boxes and containers we have had already!
Well done on a super week Robins and I really hope you all have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday!
Love Miss Spencer x
