Welcome to the first learning blog of the last half term of the year! Where has the time gone? We’ve had a very exciting week at school, so read on to find out more…
The main event of the week was of course our trip to Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday. We had a wonderful time and with slightly cooler weather the children were able to fully enjoy spending time on the beach with their friends, making sandcastles and digging rather large holes. We also learned about the geography of Weston, with the pier and sweeping coastline giving us plenty to talk about. At the Seaquarium, we also managed to fit in some science related to our topic of animals in their different habitats, and the children were wowed by being able to see lots of sea creatures up close, such as sharks, piranhas, turtles and even Nemo and Dory! A fantastic day was had by all, including the teachers, and I hope they came home and told you all about it afterwards as well. The children as usual were a credit to you all and were a pleasure to take out of school.
In English this week, we wrote a recount of our trip, as well as a fact file about our favourite creature from the Seaquarium, the clownfish. The childrren were fascinated by this real creature and some of the facts Disney missed out!
In Maths we have been recapping some of our learning from earlier in the year, such as finding the difference (by subtracting as well as counting on), interpreting graphs and making different amounts using coins. We are continuing to practice our times tables, particularly the 2s, 5s and 10s, so in any spare moments at home a little practice would be even better!
In Computing this week, we began making some digital art in the style of the Impressionists – see Purple Mash to have a go at home if you would like. In RE, we learned about the story of Zaccheus from the Bible. And in PE, we began some sports day preparation with Mr Coley by practicing some of our athletics skills.
Thanks for reading the blog this week! The children have all had a new reading target and new spellings this week. Please could i also ask if homework books could be sent in, I have a new homework sheet ready and waiting and new maths and writing targets ready to go! Have a nice weekend everyone – enjoy the sunshine! I’m off to Weston! (ask the children they know why!)
Love from Mrs Barlow xxxx
