Bumblebees Blog – Summer Term 1, Week 2

By Alyson Merrifield on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in News, Polli:nation, Reception. No Comments

Hello Bumblebees,

Well you certainly know all there is to know about making porridge!

We started the week with the class making porridge with Mrs Nguyen and choosing our favourite toppings, (we later made a bar chart to see which topping was most popular…honey won!).

Later in the week Bumblebees wrote the instructions down for Goldilocks and Baby Bear, as they had forgotten how to make it.

In art this week we looked at the work of Vincent Van Gogh, paying attention to how he painted sky in swirls in the painting ‘Starry Night’. The children painted backgrounds for their 3 pigs house collages in the same style with fantastic results.

In construction we made beds, chairs and houses for our 3 bears and 3 little pigs.

In RE we learnt about the Sikh celebration and story of Vaisakhi.

In PE we focused on football skills again, controlling the ball and passing to each other.

In maths we looked at positional language and counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Congratulations to Oscar for achieving Star Work of the Week award, this was for accurately, and independently telling the time to o’clock.

Thank you to Arsham for looking after Rory the Rights Respecting Rabbit last week, Arsham explored the Right to Play, this week Rory went home with Heath and Hudson, we shall look forward to reading about their adventures next Friday.

Well done to our children who received a certificate this week in our celebration assembly: Freddie, Lorenzo, Mia, Delphine and Alexis.

Our Wonderland trip is next Tuesday 1st May, please ensure your child wears sensible shoes and a waterproof, warm coat for this very indecisive weather we are currently receiving! Thank you.

REQUEST : If any parents wish to donate wildflower seeds, vegetable or salad plugs/seeds, maybe you have some spare? We would be very grateful if they could be given to Mrs Merrifield for our forthcoming planting and Polli:nation sessions mid Summer 1 term and for the duration of Summer 2 term’s outdoor planting activities.

See you next week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Merrifield
