Welcome to another Oak Learning Blog! We’ve had a very busy but fun week this week. Read on to find out more!
The highlight of this week was definitely our amazing trip to Cadbury World on Wednesday! The children had a fabulous time, and learned lots about where chocolate originally came from, and how it is made in the factory today. They particularly loved playing in the play room, experiencing the 4D cinema and getting to eat our own little pot of melted chocolate! Mmm! The children were beautifully well behaved and a real credit to the school with their listening in such a busy place and their lovely manners. Well done Oak!
They had another exciting day on Friday with our Chinese New Year celebrations. A special visitor showed the children how to decorate a plate with a Chinese New Year theme. Then, the children learned about tangrams, the ancient Chinese shape puzzle, and also made their very own paper lanterns. They even had a go at writing their names in Mandarin characters. What a great way to end the week.
This week we also learned some information about the main food groups in Science and wrote a leaflet in English to give people advice on how to eat healthily, especially important in our chocolate topic. The children learned all about the importance of a balanced diet and made some super creative but informative leaflets.
In Maths, we are continuing to work on our times tables, and have also begun to look at division. We looked at how to solve calculations and problems by sharing and grouping. Can you show a grown up how you might solve 35 divided by 5?
In the afternoons we did some more Science, and thought about what things animals and humans need to survive. Can you tell someone at home what we need? We also continued basketball matches with Mr Coley. Inspired by our trip we designed our own chocolate bars in Design and Technology and also made our own moulds ready to use next week.
What a busy week that was! Only one more to go until half term! Just a couple of notes for parents – don’t forget if you have not returned your parents meeting slip please do so as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading, have a lovely weekend, and see you all on Monday!
Lots of love Mrs Barlow xxx
